the cuban adjustment act
The Cuban Adjustment Act (CAA) is a U.S. law enacted in 1966 that allows Cuban nationals who have been physically present in the United States for at least one year to apply for permanent residency (a green card). The act provides a special pathway for Cuban nationals, making it easier for them to obtain legal residency compared to nationals from other countries.
Eligibility: Cuban citizens who were admitted or paroled into the U.S., physical present in the U.S. for at least one year are eligible to apply for permanent residency.
Non-cuban spouses and stepchildren of a cuban citizen may also be eligible for a green card under the Cuban Adjustment Act if they meet the same criteria
